  1. Is this product gluten-free – my daughter is highly allergic to wheat and we need to be sure there is no ‘cross-contamination’ (I noticed that Dixie Lily also sells breading products, so the cross contamination is a concern. Thanks!

    1. Hello Christine,

This item doesn’t contain any wheat ingredients in it, however there is small possibility of cross contamination because we currently pack a seafood breader in the same facility as the Stone Ground White meal. We do have a Dixie Lily Yellow Corn Grit that she will enjoy. Thanks for reaching out.

  2. Made the recipe on the back of the bag for hush puppies… after frying noticed that they have orange specs all through each fritter? Is that a coloring added or some kind of chemical reaction? Used all ingredients from hush puppy recipe on the back of the bag. Please comment, thanks

    1. Hello Peggy,
There is no coloring added to the mix. The orange specs that you saw is probably just a mixture of the corn, eggs etc all mixed together. We hope you enjoyed them!

  3. My local store (Publix) has stopped carrying this item. I make my moms (who has passed) cornbread with the stone ground cornmeal. Can I order it online?
    Thank you

      1. I live in London now and just asked family, who live in Atlanta and are about to visit, to bring me a couple of bags. They also said that Publix is no longer stocking it! 😱My mother has always made her cornbread with Dixie Lily. She’s 89 now! I have sent them the link for ordering. Thanks!

      2. I bought this product at Publix, so apparently they are now carrying it. It’s great in cowboy pancakes (cornmeal pancakes). Try the LA Times recipe.

    1. Thank you so much for contacting us. Unfortunately, we do not offer a precooked cornmeal? We do not have an arepas recipe so we are not sure if our product would work as a substitute or not. We appreciate your business and we are sorry that we could not be of more help.

      1. It is not precooked, but I used a recipe where I added a cup of boiling water to one cup of the cornmeal, and I let it set for 10 minutes. This cornmeal is a fine grind, and a few minutes in a cup of boiled water (1 cup cornmeal, 1 cup water) “cooks” it. If you have a recipe that combines with liquid to make the dough (water), you could try this method. The texture of resulting cake was perfection.

  4. Is your stone ground white corn meal the whole grain, or is it de-germinated, bleached, bromated, or any such other treatments?
We were wondering b/c of the added enrichment listed in the ingredients, which seems to usually be added when ground grains are further processed with such.
Thank you for any enlightenment you can share.

    1. Thank you so much for contacting us. All of our stone ground corn meals are whole grain with added enrichment. It is not bleached or bromated. We hope this information helps and we appreciate your business.

      1. Bless you for responding & bless Dixie Lily for providing this healthy (& best!) option for those of us who love stone-ground, whole grain, white corn cornbread!

    1. Thank you so much for contacting us. Our Stone Ground Cornmeal is not non-GMO. Our research shows that approximately 88% of the corn grown in the US is genetically modified in some way. Our corn suppliers do not claim to be non-genetically modified at this time. We hope this information helps and we appreciate your business.

    1. Please do not try to remove the metal ring. Simply lift it up as high as it can go and cut the bag beneath it with scissors. Once open we recommend transferring the contents to an air tight container. We hope this information helps and we appreciate your business.

  5. Where can l order the cornmeal plain? My mother love this stuff and can’t find it in stores.

  6. The big chains in my area of Central Georgia do not carry this. But my preferred grocery franchise, basically a Piggly Wiggly, always has it in stock. Check your smaller local stores in th South.

    1. Thank you so much for contacting us. The best by date is the best guide to determining how long you should keep a bag of our cornmeal. Once you are past the best by date we recommend throwing it out. To keep the product fresher longer we recommend storing it in an air tight container. Some people also store their cornmeal in the fridge or the freezer. We hope this information helps and we appreciate your business. Stay safe.
